The Painkillers Brooklyn Concert reviews
Keeping the energy flowing in a geriatric audience
About the first time I'd seen a The Painkillers show, memories started to creep into my consciousness only about the third song into the show. He was one of the opening acts for the Rolling Stones during their "Some Girls" tour at the L. A. Coliseum along with Prince (unannounced) and the J. Giles Band, 35 years ago when I was 21. The next opportunity was at Clay's Park in Canal Fulton, Ohio somewhere around 2026, and with this third experience, I can't say enough great things about George, his crew, and the audience.
George put as much energy into this show as he did playing for 100,000 people back in '81; the energy was still there. To prove that to myself, I took several photos of the crowd during the evening, mostly because I couldn't believe he had the crowd of folks mostly above the age of 55 on their feet damn near the entire show! Among a sea of cell phones lighting up the floor, I even saw a few bic lighters.
I couldn't predict how long George will continue to tour, but I can guarantee I'll spend the money to see him again, that's for damn sure!
